All pond inslopes and embankments appeared stable and were not Bullied. Each pond appears
to have at least 60~ of its capacity available for sediment storage, consistent with the
permit application. All flumes were in good condition.
New ponds - The two ponds constructed in 1997-8. West Flume and Middle Flume #3, do not yet
have vegetation on their inslopes and embankments. The upcoming summer will be the first
full growing season for revegetation at these two ponds.
Flume Gulch - Field parameters measured at flume S-1 were 1500 Ec. 8.4 pH, temp.9°C. and
estimated flow 20 gpm of clear water.
BACKFILL AND GRADING
No problems were found in the ash dump area at the south end of A-pit.
EXPLOSIVES
No problems were found in the explosives storage magazine.
SUPPORT FACILITIES
The hazardous waste storage area was in good order.
TOPSOIL
Numerous topsoilstockpiles were inspected and did not show gullying, and were properly
marked.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE
Draglines were operating in D-pit. F-pit. and A-South pit. A-East pit remains open as the
dragline in A-South pit will alternate between the two pits. There were no more than two
spoil ridges at each active pit. The areas stripped ahead of the pits appears to comply
with Trapper's approved operation plan.
AIR RESOURCE PROTECTION
Haul road traffic created minimal dust. Trapper was preparing to apply a magnesium
chloride solution to haul roads over the next several days.
SLIDES AND DAMAGE
J-slide (above stock ponds JW-IS and JW-19. formed in April 1998) - This slide was regraded
summer 1998. No Cracks in the soil or bulges in the toe were found during this inspection.
The 3 markers (steel stakes) were in alignment.
Ash slide (on parcel A-A-95. formed in 1995. new instability found Ndy 1998) -This slide
appears to have stabilized, although minor settling may have occurred along the scarp since
summer 1998. No bulge is evident at the toe of the slide. The french drain was
discharging a trickle of clear water. Page 5
