(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: s~-tooo_nn~
INSPECTION DATE: AAnrrh 7d, 7pfld INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: A IW
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Wpldron of DMG. The operator was contacted but
was unable to attend the inspection. The site is located approximately 9 miles north of Parkdale, Colorado in
small mountain/valley type country. The predominant vegetation is pinyon-juniper-oakbrush with some fir at
higher and north facing slopes. The pit is situated along the sideslope of an area where agranite/gneiss ridge
noses out into a more level valley area.
There wds an identification sign posted at the site to the mine entrance and The four corners of the permit area
were clearly marked. The mine has been active recently as evidenced by the presence of equipment and
fresh tracks around the site. A bench has been constructed along the slope to accommodate equipment for
the extraction of raw rock material which is further processed into road-base and other end products. The
topsoil handling at this site seems a little haphazard. Some topsoil is being allowed to trickle down off of the
highwall cut face and salvage in general seems a little sloppy. ALL AVAILABLE TOPSOIL must be salvaged and
stockpiled for use later during reclamation. There is a stockpile started and this pile needs to be shaped and
seeded with fhe approved temporary seed mix.
One problem that was identified involves the removal and burning of slash. The slash is being piled along the
east side of the permit area near the northeast corner. However, some of this material has been pushed across
the boundary and equipment was being operated under wet conditions. This has led to rutting of the topsoil
and destruction of the vegetation. A smdll area (approximately 2000 square feet) has been disturbed outside
of the boundary, which is not clearly marked in this area. Although the corners of the permit area are clearly
marked and the north boundary is clearly delineated due to the presence of a livestock fence, the east side is
not clearly marked and the line of site from the southeast corner to the northeast corner is obstructed by trees
near the northeast corner. As a result, material was pushed across the boundary in this area. Since the
disturbance is very small, this is going to be cited as a problem instead of a possible violation. However, if the
abatement is not competed in the required time-frame, a reason to believe letter will be issued and this may
turn into a violation. The abatement will be to clearly mark the boundary along the east side followed by clean
up of any excess slash, re-grading of affected area outside permit boundary, followed by seeding of this area
with the approved seed mix. In addition, topsoil should be removed and salvaged in areas where mining
related activities are occurring. This problem and the corrective actions are restated on page three of this
report.
This concluded the inspection.
E Contact Address
NAME: Marv Seifert
OPERATOR: Jerald Seifert 8 Fred Lowrv
STREET: P n Rox 305
CITY/STATE/ZIP: wactcliffa CC) R1A59
cc: r CE
t BL
r FS
r HW
r HMWMD (CH)
r sE
r WQCD (CH)
r OTHER
