<br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or <br />evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This partial inspection of the Carbon Junction Coal Mine was conducted by DMG staff <br />from the Durango Office, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone <br />1970) 247-5469. Mine representative was not located on site. No activity was <br />observed, evidence of progress towards reclamation of the site was not observed. <br />Mine identification sign was posted at the mine entrance. Permit boundary signs were <br />posted. Mine entrance road is asphalt surfaced. Road side drainage ditches and <br />culverts appeared clear and functional. <br />Sediment Pond 1, located at the far south end of the permit area, was dry. Primary <br />spillway was clear and stable, no discharge noted. Open channel secondary spillway <br />was well vegetated and stable, no evidence of discharge. Vegetative cover for the <br />pond embankment was well established, evidence of embankment instability was not <br />observed. <br />Sediment Pond 2, located along the west side of the permit area, was dry. Primary <br />spillway was clear and functional, no discharge noted. Open channel secondary <br />spillway appeared stable, no evidence of discharge. Pond embankment was well <br />vegetated and stable. <br />
