Southfield Mine, p$. 2
We walked and evaluated the shrub clumps, and success appears high without doing any
sampling. Grasses-forbs are becoming established site wide. Very little erosion was evident, and
where erosion was repaired on the north face of the reclaimed refuse pile it is stable and well
vegetated. Mr. Gorham requested that the roof bolts used to anchor straw bales be removed or
pounded below ground level for safety reasons. The concrete tunnel-loadout was the only facility
stmcture left at the landowners request to facilitate the post mining land use, and this area is
stable. The Magpie Creek diversion is approved as permanent and it is very well vegetated and
stable.
Pond 5 at the mine entrance along the road was dry and stable, no problems noted here. Both
sediment ponds at the mine facility area are to be removed (Pond 5 and the refuse pile pond).
We walked and evaluated the refuse pile; it is well vegetated and stable with no problems noted.
This concluded the inspection.
Please address any questions concerning this inspection report to Henry Austin at
haustin(u~osmre.gov or to (303) 844-1400 x1466.
::t
