(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2001-035
INSPECTION DATE 02/23/07
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
Thie was a pre-operation inspection of the Trout Creek Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Kayette Hutchison of ACA Products, Inc
was present during the inspection.
The site is located 3 miles southeast of Buena Vista in Chaffee County, Colorado. The 112c
amendment application was received by the Division on December 18, 2006. The purpose of the
amendment is to add 20 acres to the permit area located on land managed by the Hureau of Land
Management (BLM). The operator proposes to remove sand deposits left from historical
flooding in the area. According to the operator in the winter months, Mr. Moltz releases
excess water from the Trout Creek Reservoir. As the water travels over the BLM land and onto
irrigated farmland, large ice sheets develop which damage the irrigated fields.
The proposal is to create a water detention basin on the BLM land that would allow the water
to percolate back into the ground water rather than run across the open field. The operator
would remove flood outwash material down to a silt layer where the water would be detained in
the winter months. During the summer, the detention waters would dry up.
The site is located on old sand deposits and vegetation consists mainly of rabbit brush and
few perennial grasses such as Indian ricegrasa. Once the sand material has been removed, the
operator will fertilize and seed the area with the approved seed mixture. The dimensions of
the detention basin will be approximately 1,320 feet * 650 feet and approximately 6-15 feet
deep.
A notice of the amendment application has been posted at the entrance to the site and
boundary markers were noted.
I & S Contact Addreea
^ CE
NAME Kayette Hutchison ^ BL
OPERATOR ACA Products, Inc. ^ FS
STREET PO Box 1887, 702 Gregg Drive ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Buena Vista, CO 81211 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
Cc: Carl Mount; DRMS
