III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observaUOns made <br />dunng the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken dunng the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action <br />This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of <br />Minerals and Geology (Division). This is the tenth growing season for most of the reclaimed <br />areas at this mine. Ground conditions were extremely dry and the weather was clear and hot. <br />with temperatures approaching 90 degrees. <br />Availability of Records <br />The public copy of the mine records is kept at the office of Peak Project Management (PPM). <br />The contact, address, and phone number for PPM is Ron Thompson, Peak Project <br />Management, 34115 County Road 20.8, Trinidad, CO 81082, 719-846-4975. All records <br />were found in compliance as detailed on page 2a of this report. <br />~drolog_ic Balance <br />A number of former ground <br />water monitoring wells are in <br />various stages of final <br />reclamation Completion of <br />abandonment and reclamation <br />is necessary prior to final bond <br />release. The company <br />extracting coal-bed methane <br />gas has constructed a new <br />road in Cherry Canyon This <br />road allows easy access for <br />reclamation to at least one of <br />the more remote ground water <br />monitoring sites. The photo at <br />right shows the position of a <br />new gas pipeline relative to the <br />well casing. Care should be <br />exercised when reclaiming the <br />surface casing and the site m <br />general. <br />Revegetation <br />The main facility area <br />vegetation remains in a nearly <br />dormant state due to the <br />persistent Zack of meaningful <br />precipitation.
