• (Page 2) • MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-79-155 INSPECTION DATE 9-26-96 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GSC OBSERVATIONS This was a monitoring inspection conducted without an operator's representative. The permit is located on the flanks of an old volcanic cinder cone located in the hills northeast of Dotsero. The total permit area of 9.23 acres is divided into three non-contiguous parcels and the haul road ae follows: Active Pit 4.03 acres Upper Stockpile area 1.03 Lower Stockpile area 2.38 Haul Road 1.79 Total 7.43 The active pit is situated in a steep sloped ravine and the pit walls are comprised of loose pyroclastics and basalt. Mining has progressed predominantly toward .the north and east leaving steep eidewalls, especially to the east. There was no equipment in the pit during the inspection and no personnel on-site. There are two stockpile areas located south of the pit, the first being located about 250 feet below the pit. Astable, six foot high stockpile was observed in this area. The lower stockpile area is located about 2,500 feet south of the pit on the north side of the Colorado River valley. This lowest stockpile area contains a storage shed, three de-icer tanks, and an estimated 300 yards of stockpiled cinder. To the north is an old, pre-law pit, ae shown on the topographic map in the permit file. This pre-law pit ie not part of the permit. A permit sign was observed in the lower stockpile area, however, no permit markers were found there or in the upper stockpile area or at the pit.
