(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-97-007
INSPECTION DATE 4 9 97 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS AJE
OBSERVATIONS
This was a pre-operational inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Wayne
Spence of Denver Brick Company. The site is located in Elbert County and is adjacent to
another clay mine operated by Denver Brick. The notice of proposed mining operation was
properly posted at the last public entrance to the mine site.
The mine is located on a residual uplift that drops off sharply to the east into some deeply
dissected drainages and slopes more gently to the west into rolling rangeland. The elevation
is approximately 6000 feet and the predominant vegetation is shortgrass prairie consisting
of blue grama, little bluestem, western wheatgrass, green needlegrass and scattered clumps
of yucca and cactus and other minor shrubs. Based on the relative health of the vegetative
community the soils should be adequate to reclaim the site. The only permanent structure,
which is identified on the existing conditions map, is a three strand cattle fence located
on the southern permit boundary. The application proposes a permit area of approximately 30
acres with a disturbance of approximately 17.3 acres to be mined in three phases over a
period of 22 years.
The application will continued to be reviewed and any inadequacies that are identified will
be forwarded to the operator. The decision date for this application is May 1, 1997.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Wayne Spence
OPERATOR Denver Brick Comoanv
STREET Box 1600 (401 Santa Fe Road)
CITY/STATE/ZIP Castle Rock, Colorado 80104-6100
cc: Carl Mount
~ CE
~ BL
~ FS
~ HW
~ HMWMD (CH)
~ SE
~ WQCD (CH)
~ OTHER
