III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Tom Kaldenbach of CDMG. Rick Mills represented the operator.
The ground was covered with approximately six inches of snow. The snow cover limited inspection.
RECORDS AVAILABILITY: The records checklist is attached. All required records were available.
SIGNS AND MARKERS: The following signs and markers were properly displayed: mine i.d. signs,
disturbance area boundary markers, stream buffer signs, and topsoil markers.
ROADS: In excellent shape.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: The #9 mine dewatering well (7 Angle N) was discharging more than 50 gpm.
Ponds -Flow from the 7 Angle N well was causing pond 9P3 (NPDES ouffall 024) to discharge more
than 50 gpm. Snow melt may also have been contributing to that discharge. The flume at NPDES 024
appeared to be in good repair. Other sediment control ponds were snow covered, but appeared to not
contain water.
Culverts - No problems were found, although snow cover limited inspection.
PROCESSING WASTE: No activity, no change.
SUPPORT FACILITIES: No problems were found in any of the facilities areas.
SLIDES AND DAMAGE: None.
SUBSIDENCE: No new subsidence was evident.
EXCESS SPOIL AND DEVELOPMENT WASTE: No new addition. Existing areas appear stable.
