The
operator, through Colorado Lining Inc. was attempting to line the lower part of the
const:cucted tailings pond. A recent snowstorm has left water in the bottom of the pond.
There was standing water in the north and south ends of the pond. The operator was told that
lining directly over standing water was not acceptable and water was actively pumped from the
areas of standing water most of the day.
Rocks in the subgrade were removed. Sandy material was placed where rocks could not be
remov~=_d. Where water had been standing, sandy material was added to improve foundation
stability.
The inspector left the site from 1100 to 1400 to inspect another site in the area.
Upon .return to the site, solutions to improve foundational stability were discussed. It was
decided to use scrap 60 mil High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) to cover wet foundation areas
to spread the load and add a water barrier so wet foundation would not affect the Geotextile
Clay Liner (GCL) material. This was done in the northern part of the bottom of the pond.
Only two runs of GCL and HDPE were installed this day since most work was concentrated on
foundation preparation and drying.
I & Fi Contact Address
NAME Ms. Maxine Stewart
OPERATOR ITEC Environmental, Inc.
STREET 9605 West 49`° Avenue. #102
CITY!STATE/ZIP Wheat Ridoe, CO 80033
cc: Mr. Christina Kamnikar, DMG
CE
BL
FS
HW
HMWMD (CH)
SE
WQCD (CH)
OTHER
