III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
On February 1, 1994 a partial inspection was conducted at the Marr Strip Mine.
Observations of this mine were made from the Canadian Strip permit area. All
reciamation activities at this mine have temporarily ceased. Backfillirtg to
approximate original contour had been completed. During the last inspection
the operator stated that backfilling would be completed January 21, 1994.
There was a flight dusting of snow on the ground.
On the south end of the 720 pit there appeared to be a scarp forming at the
point where the backfill meets the highwall. The scarp appeared to be about
two feet high. This is of no concern since reclamation activities will restart in
the summer and the mine intends to do smooth out some areas before topsoil is
applied.
