Fritz #244
General Comments
This was a complete oversight inspection. The State Mined Land
keclamation Division was notified about the schedule for this
inspection but was not able to .ioin me due to other commitments. '
There has been no ar_tivity on the mine since July of lyB3. There
was no one at the mine representing the company. in addition. there
are no rer_ords available for review at or near the minesite.
There used to be a set of inter connected mobile homes and a
trailer truck bed on the site for their otfice/showerhouse and supply
depot. Those were pulled off of the area sometime prior to the last
OSM oversight inspection. There appears to be several underground
tanks buried near the foot of the old office area that have not been
removed because above.arounc: connectors for the systems are in place
and are covered with insulated housinos.
Access to the permit area is limited. a locked gate restricts mat or
vehicle trespass on the mine. The portals on the #1 mine: the
exhaust. the manway and beltline are closed to access, with the
exception of the manway. which has a fenced chain link sate that has
been vandalized. A portion of the chain lint: fence has been pulled
aside to pain entry into the drift. An effort will be made to notify
M5HA concerning the problem.
The #2 mine portals on the upper bench have been sealed and
backfilled because the seam caught on fire sometime prior to
temporary cessation. No evidence of an active fire was noted in the
vicinity of the portal area. there 15 also no evidence of collapse
on the bench above the backfilled area. The fill was a_raded and
planted. vegetation on the area is uniform, no erosion noted.
both sediment ponds. the one below the coal stocY.pile and the
other, which controls a major portion of the affected area, appeared
to be functioning. The principal spillway, a drop inlet draw down
valve, and the emergency spillway, a drop inlet. are clear. Evidence
of standing water was noted in both, but they were dry on the day of
the inspection. The culverts under the access and haulroads are ;.;~,.
