Fritz #244 <br />General Comments <br />This was a complete oversight inspection. The State Mined Land <br />keclamation Division was notified about the schedule for this <br />inspection but was not able to .ioin me due to other commitments. ' <br />There has been no ar_tivity on the mine since July of lyB3. There <br />was no one at the mine representing the company. in addition. there <br />are no rer_ords available for review at or near the minesite. <br />There used to be a set of inter connected mobile homes and a <br />trailer truck bed on the site for their otfice/showerhouse and supply <br />depot. Those were pulled off of the area sometime prior to the last <br />OSM oversight inspection. There appears to be several underground <br />tanks buried near the foot of the old office area that have not been <br />removed because above.arounc: connectors for the systems are in place <br />and are covered with insulated housinos. <br />Access to the permit area is limited. a locked gate restricts mat or <br />vehicle trespass on the mine. The portals on the #1 mine: the <br />exhaust. the manway and beltline are closed to access, with the <br />exception of the manway. which has a fenced chain link sate that has <br />been vandalized. A portion of the chain lint: fence has been pulled <br />aside to pain entry into the drift. An effort will be made to notify <br />M5HA concerning the problem. <br />The #2 mine portals on the upper bench have been sealed and <br />backfilled because the seam caught on fire sometime prior to <br />temporary cessation. No evidence of an active fire was noted in the <br />vicinity of the portal area. there 15 also no evidence of collapse <br />on the bench above the backfilled area. The fill was a_raded and <br />planted. vegetation on the area is uniform, no erosion noted. <br />both sediment ponds. the one below the coal stocY.pile and the <br />other, which controls a major portion of the affected area, appeared <br />to be functioning. The principal spillway, a drop inlet draw down <br />valve, and the emergency spillway, a drop inlet. are clear. Evidence <br />of standing water was noted in both, but they were dry on the day of <br />the inspection. The culverts under the access and haulroads are ;.;~,. <br />
