III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection.. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an complete inspection of the Trinidad Basin Mine for the month ofJune, 1997. The permit
was revoked and the bond was forfeit at this site.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: The site has been receiving quite a lot of rain in the past few weeks and
as a result, the vegetation is doing very well. Ponds 15-P1, 15-P11, 15-p20, and 22-P4 had water in
them but were not discharging, all other pods were dry. Pond 15-P1 is very close to being silted in
and should be cleaned. The drainage ditch leading to it from the road is silted in completely and has
breached in one spot. This ditch needs reconstructing. All other ponds are in satisfactory condition.
ROADS: The access roads appear to be stable with the exception of the riprapped section of the
road that leads to the ponds on the southeast portion of the mine. The outslope of the road continues
back cutting and undermining the riprap. This section of the road will require maintenance if the road
is to be retained for access.
