(Page 2) •
MINE ID p OR PROSPECTING ID p_
INSPECTION DATE 4-20-99 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted at the request of Elam Construction, Inc. This inspection is conducted prior to submittal
of an application. The site is proposed fora 111 borrow area for the Highway 50 upgrade project, and is located on
Highway 50 just opposite it's intersection with Kannah Creek Road approximately 4.5 miles southeast of the town of
Whitewater.
The majority of the site is a nearly flat pasture that is bounded by Kannah Creek on the southeast and a Highway 50
frontage road on the northeast. The southeast side of the site, adjacent to Kannah Creek appears to have been previously
excavated and was left in rough condition. this previously disturbed area is now vegetated. Some of the vegetation in the
low spots of this previously disturbed area appear to be indicative of a possible wetland. Elam is encouraged to have a
wetland survey completed for this site to determine if any permits from the Army Corps of Engineers are necessary.
No standing water was observed on the proposed site.
There are mature cottonwood trees along Kannah Creek, on the southeast corner of the proposed site. Elam Construction,
Inc. is encouraged to include plans, in their 111 application, to protect this mature vegetation.
Structures noted along the northeast boundary include a wire fence, permanent survey markers, Highway 50, a frontage
road, and overhead powerlines. The site map drawn by Elam indicates a 6 inch irrigation pipe is buried along this corridor,
Responses to this inspection report should be sent to:
Division of Minerals and Geology, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Steve Shuey.
Steve Shuey can also be contacted at phone no. 970-247-5062,
I & E Contact Address
NAME Tom Loaue
OPERATOR Elam Construction.
