This <br />property was acquired is 1999 for the preservation of wildlife habitat. The primary use by wildlife is <br />wintering elk end deer as well as summer habitat for a variety of species. Winter habitat m Grand County <br />is limited, especially in tight of the rapid development of adjacent leads. The CDOW acquired this <br />property to provide big game winter range, aIleviate gams damage and fnrancial im~acEs on adjacent <br />agricuhural producers. <br />With that in mind we are concerned w@h several items as ir:ehtes to the proposed aetidrty at the pit. <br />1. "Operating season- it is very important to rvoid disturbance to the wintering area from acid November <br />thru Apfil each year. Will the pit be closedm the wiatea'1 <br />2. Noise and dust abatement affetxing those species which use the area in the summer for fawning and <br />sn~erhabitat - _. .._ _ . <br />3. Trespass oa CIX)VV lands. This parcelis Closed to human activity from November 15 thru Agri} 15 . <br />each year. A project has been requested to fwce the parcel, but it has not bem doae to date. <br />There is also more use by wOdlife of tho projected pit than idoatified in your proposal While it is correct <br />that birds, includ'mg npton, and rodents ttse the property. Large ungulates, especially deer and ellr (up <br />to 1000, have been seen Tonging and moving through the property to the hay meadow to the west. <br />We note that you have a noxious weed plan and would eacourage use ofaative grasses, fortes and <br />shrubs.
