- r

III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Coal Gulch Mine was conducted by Wally Erickson from
the DMG Durango Office, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango, CO
81301, phone (970) 247-5469. The permit for the Coal Gulch Mine was revoked over
5 years ago. Financial warranty was forfeited and utilized for final reclamation. No
activities were observed, no personnel encountered during the time of this inspection.
Mine identification sign has been replaced by sign for Firehawk Contractors, 259-6440.
Entrance gate was locked. Firehawk equipment and stockpiles of rock, soil, vegetative
debris and industrial debris were located on site. Footprint of disturbance created by
Firehawk continues to increase.
Sediment pond was holding water approximately 1' deep, no discharge noted. Primary
and secondary spillways appeared to be clear and functional. Embankment appeared
stable. Weeds were well established on pond embankment. Water was also
impounded in a depression at the east side of the permit area, approximately 0.5'
deep. Marmot was observed near the rear impoundment. Tracks of elk and deer were
numerous throughout the permit area.
Backfilled and graded areas, not recently impacted by Firehawk activities appeared well
vegetated and stable.
