III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence
supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Blue Flame Coal Mine was conducted by DMG staff from the
Durango Office, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970) 247-5469.
The permit was revoked; financial warranty was forfeited and utilized for reclamation. No
activities were observed, no individuals were contacted during this inspection. Snow cover 18
inch depth existed.
The access roads have remained to provide access to adjacent agricultural fields. No evidence
of activity at the site.
Backfilled and graded areas appeared stable, no evidence of slope movement or excessive
erosion with the exception of minor settling at one of the two portals. Settling of backfilled
material had resulted in an open hole, approximately 2 feet diameter at surtace and
approximately 10 inches diameter at 5' depth.
