~-
RE: Inspection Report on Henderson Mine/Mill Visit - July 27, 1981
obvious and gray dam face. Reclamation efforts do not always achieve
results on the first application which we view as satisfactory. We
repeat the efforts in some instances and modify techniques in others to
obtain the desired results. An extensive survey and measurement of vege-
tation establishment on the No. 1 tailing dam face has not been conducted
as the soil dressing was applied during the fall of 1980. Evalueition of
efforts at this elevation would normally be reserved until after 2-3
growing seasons.
Problems/Recommendations (1) Alternative methods of top dressing; and
slopes on the dam face will be investigated and, as is our normal. approach,
unresponsive attempts will be treated to achieve desired results.
Problems/Recommendations (3) To reiterate what was stated in Revegetation (1),
there are no revegetation study plots on pure tailing material at Henderson.
All revegetation efforts are continuously evaluated to ensure desirable and
satisfactory results. Diversity on the tailing ponds at Urad egi.als or
exceeds the diversity of the natural surrounding area.
Problems/Recommendations (4) In the sections on "Soil" and "Vegetation"
in the Henderson Reclamation Plan (1977), soil and vegetation monitoring
programs were described which address the concerns listed in your report.
Problems/Recommendations (5) We feel our approved reclamation plan is
adequate. The facts set forth in the inspection report do not suggest that
the plan, when fully implemented, will not fully satisfy all requirements
of the act. We do not feel that the inclusion of stability monitoring data
in annual reports is warranted. A general background reference on this
topic is Waste Production and Disposal in Mining, Milling, and Metallurgical
Industries by Roy E. Williams, 1975.
