III. COMMENTS • COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection The comments include discussion of observations made
during the mspection Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action
This was a partial mspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology. This former underground mine was reclaimed and reseeded in 1996 and early
1997 Ground conditions on this day were generally dry. The weather was unseasonably
mild for January. During the inspection, Mr Thompson provided me with a proposed public
notice for a forthcoming bond release application for the work recently completed at the NW-
1 vent fan shaft I reviewed the notice and gave Mr Thompson the go-ahead to publish the
notice.
Signs and Markers
The mine entry sign was intact on a pole north of the railroad ROW but had slid down to the
ground. Please affix this sign at an appropriate height as soon as possible.
Offsde Support Facddies
All work has been completed at the NW-1 ventilation fan site Mulch had been applied on
the surface of the disturbed area of the pad and on the reclaimed access road down to the
windmill No marker or sign marked the former location of the shaft.
_ etc'' _ .. • -.
Mr. Thompson will report this work in the 2004 Annual Reclamation Report. If the area had
been previously reported as reclaimed. narrative should describe that due to the nature and
scope of the work involved, the reworking of the area restarts the 10-year revegetation
liability period for this area. The operator may also want to evaluate the need for re-seeding
of the former access road
Overall, the site appeared in good condition for the winter season. The operator is reminded
to please complete repair of the reference area fence.
NW-1 fan site from above -north side NW-1 fan site from above-south side
