Mr. Allen C. Sorenson
Gold Hill Mill Permit
July 15, 1996
Page 2

system has not been used but water has been transferred
to the mill for wash down water in the clean-up and
restoration process which is ongoing. No samples were
taken of clean-up water.
Item 4: Instructions have been given to Gold Hill Mill personnel
to prevent ponding by the spray irrigation system.
Item 5: The CGM pipe has been removed from the Hazel-A adit and
replaced by a bricked-in a metal door with lock.
Item 6: A new log book has been placed in the Hazel-A adit in a
weatherproof bag. Personnel have been instructed on the
proper care and use of the log book. Inspections are to
be made daily, seven days per week.
In a similar manner, a log book has been placed in the
mill office into which is recorded, amoung other items,
the spraying time of the mill tailings sprays and the
spray irrigation system.
Item 7: The outby transfer pumps have been replaced by pumps with
attached float actuators which will maintain the high-low
levels more adequately.
Item 8: The pump-back hoses have been connected to a discharge
pipe which discharges above and behind the bulkhead.
Item 9: No evidence has been found whether or not the barrels of
oil-soaked soil were ever transferred to a landfill. No
barrels containing what is believed to be the soil
mentioned in the inspection report have been discovered
within the mill. However, we have located several
barrels of other contaminated or unknown material within
the building. These barrels will be disposed of at a
landfill and DMG will be provided receipts for such
disposal.
Last Paragraph - Observations: Your observation that the new
owner of the Gold Hill Mill is unfamiliar with conditions
of the current permit is valid. We have taken steps to
have the permit file from DMG's office copied and will
become familiar with its terms and conditions upon
receipt of the file.
Unfortunately, as you are aware, this permit is somewhat
complex due to the extensive problems DMG had with the
