~~
Letter to Bob Oswald
Date: January 18, 2002
~i
waste oil recycling tank. Tt~e Mill has arrangements with a waste oil recycling firm that
routinely comes to the Mill and. removes waste oil.
Photographs were taken of all of the barrel storage locations at the mine sites prior to the
removal of the barrels. Photographs have also been taken of the sites following removal of the
barrels. Given the near term Corrective Action date of January 25, today's response is being sent
before the photographic evidence is available. These photographs will be provided to you at a
later date as evidence of complc;ting the Corrective Actions specified in your Inspection Report.
New Permit identification signs have been ordered and should be installed in the next several
days (weather permitting). I may be able to get photographs of the new identification signs next
week, in which case I will include them with the photographs documenting the removal of the
waste oil barrels.
The final Corrective Action item in your December 19, 2001 Inspection Reports (pertaining to
the removal of the waste oil barrels) is the request for a written commitment by IUSA to perform
soil remediation at the West Sunday site by a specified date. IUSA proposes that soil tilling be
employed as the soil remediation process, as this has been employed previously at the Sunday
mines with the concurrence of the Division of Minerals and Geology and has been demonstrated
to be an effective remediation t~°chnique. IUSA agrees to implement soil remediation by tilling
on or before July 25, 2002 at the West Sunday Mine in the area on the north side of the shop
affected by the waste oil spillage:.
T will be forwazding photographs and additional information in the neaz future. Please let me
know if you have any questions; my direct phone number is 303-389-4161.
Best regazds,
~~/
Cc: David C. Frydenlund
Ron F.
