This was an aerial inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of CDMG based on photos taken on
Tuesday. December 16, 2003. The area had received some snow in the preceding days and
there was still snow present, even on south-facing slopes.
At the main facilities area, Pond B was frozen over. There was not much snow in the
faalities area besides that. The slopes around the Elk Creek conveyer appeared to be
stable. The Elk Creek topsoil pile was snow-covered. No signs of erosion or instability
were evident on the air photos. The Elk Creek facilities area was snow covered. The Elk
Creek borrow area appeared stable, with no slides or erosion. There was evidence of some
fresh soil sliding down the face, covering the snow, but it did not reach the rip rap at the base
of the pile.
The West Valley Fill waste pile appeared stable. There were no signs of instability or
erosion. Most of the face of the pile was clear of snow.
Construction was proceeding on the road to the "II-West" waste pile. There appear to be no
signed of instability or erosion along the road.
Pond D was frozen over and the embankments appeared stable.
