Mr. Jim Helmericks, operator,
accompanied the DMG inspector throughout this inspection. The gravel pit is located on the lip of a esa approximately 2 miles
south of Durango, on the east side of highway 3.
The mine identification sign was easily found from highway 3, the sign displayed all necessary informatia~n. Affected area perimeter
markers consisted of metal pipe markers with red flagging. Perimeter markers were located appropria ely.
The mine haul road was well maintained. The natural drainage adjacent to the haul road was riprap line on the side of the channel
bordering the haul road. End dump trucks were hauling material off site, front end loader was loading aterial into crusher. The
operation includes a single crusher and loader, a stockpile of sorted material and scale with scale house. he disturbed area is small,
partially due to the deep seam of gravel being mined. Highwalls were approximately 30 to 50 feet hi h and appeared stable.
The natural drainage channel adjacent to the mine haul road has been diverted and reconstructed due to development activities
located downslope of the mine permit area. Drainage channel diversion and reconstruction was n t associated with mining
activities. The diverted channel lies on ground higher in elevation that the developed lots on either side of the channel. Sediment
and cobbles have been deposited within the channel in sufficient quantities to disrupt channel cross action. Channel flow has
previously left the reconstructed channel and damaged the chain link fence for Century Equipment.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Jim Helmericks
OPERATOR Durango Gravel
STREET 995 Hiahwav 3
CITY/STATE/ZIP Durango, CO 81301
cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD ICH)
^ SE
^ WOCD ICH)
^ OTHER
