At the time of inspection, her son was performing the fall
culvert maintenance. Culvert 5-4 was over half full of sediment and after
some discussion, I suggested that it be removed to minimize future
maintenance. The culvert Currently serves no function; it apparently used
to be on a road accessing the Pit 5 office. It will be necessary to revise
Page III-16 of the permit application and the Mining Plan map to show this
removal, but I think we can do this during the permit renewal.
While performing the records check, I noticed that pond inspections seem to
be performed on an annual basis rather than a quarterly basis as specified by
4.05.6(11)(c). This regulation provides the option to modify the inspection
interval. Given the access difficulties of the site, the Division could
agree to inspections twice a year if appropriate language was inserted into
the permit application through the revision process.
