COLORADO 80306
PHONE: (303) 444 2151
October 3, 1983
Mr. Mike Savage
Mined Land Reclamation
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mike:
i
L ..~ _1~.. _ ~.
L C f ;, 19~::
Colo. Cepi. of ,:;,._rJ I,c.~;.~ccs
The following is Walden Coal Company's response to your inspection
reports dated September 1st and September 20, 1983.
As noted in Section III "Comments-Compliance" of the second report,
Walden Coal Company has removed the silt which accumulated in the north-west
corner of ditch C during the heavy August rains.
Topsoil stockpile C was seeded during the Fall of 1982. As a result,
some grass cover was established on the stockpile this summer, though cover
was not adequate to prevent rilling caused by severe storms. The area which
was subject to rilling will be stabilized t>y placing hay bales within the rills
and staking them into the topsoil. This tE~chnique will disperse runoff flowing
through these areas thereby reducing further erosion and rilling.
Final grade will be achieved on the eelst dump and part of phase I this
fall. Due to equipment downtime, topsoil can not be placed on those areas
in time for fall seeding. In order to reduce the hazard of topsoil loss,
Walden Coal Company will postpone topsoil placement and revegetation of those
areas until the summer/fall of 1984.
Walden Coal Company will cut a ditch around the topsoil which was stock-
piled on the east dump. Both that stockpile and stockpile A will be seeded
this fall with the approved topsoil seedmix.
I hope this letter has clarified Walden Coal Company's position on the
issues discussed in your inspection reports. If you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
~~"'~-
Ka~Y ~b
Resources Manager
