MINE SITE INSPECTION NARRATIVE
December 17, 1992
Walden Coal Co
PO Box 229
Boulder, Co
Bourg Strip mine
Personnel Present During the Inspection:
Randy Price Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
Gary Fritz Office of Surface MiningWlbuquerque Field Office #244
Weather and Ground Conditions During the Inspection:
Cold, clear with 8 to 12 inches of snow on the ground
GENERAL COMMENTS
This was a complete oversight inspection. The state was notified regarding my
schedule and was able to send someone to meet me at the mine for a joint
inspection.
A Phase I bond has been released on the permit. All buildings have been
removed from the area. Mine records are on file at the Jackson county
courthouse in Walden, Colorado. Mine representatives are no longer in the area
but instead are located in Boulder, Colo office of Walden Coal.
The mine haulroad accessing the area has been fumed over to the county. The
reclaimed disturbance is fenced to prevent grazing and the gate for the mine is
locked. Signs were posted showing the required information for the mine. The
perimeter of the mine is marked with the perimeter fence. Structures remaining
on the mine that were not there before mining distrubance are shop and office
concrete foundations, a water well for the office and the septic system. An
attempt was made to walk some of the diversions on the reclaimed area to see if
they were functional but many of them were snow covered. Of the ones that we
were able to see, all appeared to be stable with no signs of erosion.
1
