Cottony
/ Division Director
/ Natural Resource Trustee
,, Ex/tension of Submittal Date for Corrective Technical
On October 12, 2004 the Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) received your request for extension
of the October 29, 2004 corrective action due date by which time Occidental Oil Shale, Inc. (OOSI)
was to submit a technical revision application detailing a drainage control plan for the mine affected
area. The extension request, to January 31, 2005 is approved.
This correspondence also mentions that erosion feature repairs were in process at that time. Once
again, it appears that OOSI and Western Water and Land, Inc. (WWL) are constructing features at the
site prior to submittinq_ and receiving DMG approval of engineered designs for those features. Please
be aware that OOSI must provide engineering demonstrations of stability for the backfilled slopes per
Rule 3.1.5(21, 13), and (7), and Rule 6.5(1). These design specifications and/or as-built certifications
for the re-constructed slopes can be submitted with the revision required for the drainage control
plan. If there are no engineered design specifications for the reconstructed slopes, DMG may require
in-place testing of these features to demonstrate their long-term stability.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 South Third Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
telephone no. 970-243-6368.
Sincerely,
'iii`-~~
Steve S.
