(Page 2) •
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-61-235
INSPECTION DATE 09-18-98 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATIONS
This was a regular inspection of the West Tennessee Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology. Charles Webster of Webster Sand & Gravel was present during the
inspection. Weather conditions on site were clear and warm. Ground conditions were dry.
The Tennessee Pit is a 112 operation, with a permitted acreage of 139 acres. The mine is a sand and
gravel operation that contains a disturbed area roughly 35 acres in size. Charles Webster stated that
gravel is being mined at a rate of 15,000 tons/year. The working pit area is less than 10 acres in
size and is roughly 15 to 20 feet deep. The working pit area is dry, and the highwalls appeared
stable. Mining is progressing to the west. Overburden and topsoil piles were noted that will be used
for reclamation. A permit sign was noted at the mine entrance, but did not contain the permit number.
The operator must include the permit number on the Mine I.D. sign. The permit boundary markers were
identified by steel post every 100-200 feet.
The reclamation plan noted in the permit is to reclaim the pit slopes to a 4h:ly slope, and converting
the pit into a pond. The Division was unable to locate a well permit or augmentation plan issued by
the Division of Water Resources, State Engineer's Office. The operator should be aware that these
permits may need to be obtained prior to exposing groundwater and converting the pit into a pond.
If the permits cannot be obtained, the pits will have to be reclaimed in a manner that does not expose
groundwater, and may require an amendment to the reclamation plan.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Charles Webster ^ BL
OPERATOR Webster Sand & Gravel ^ FS
STREET P.O.
