III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. A complete quarterly inspection was conducted by DanMathews of DMG. Walter Whitledge and Chuck Silengo of LEI were present during portions of the inspection. Weather was cleat and mild and the site was free of snow. The mine was not operating at the time of inspection, and only a skeleton crew of mine personnel was on site performing underground maintenance. Availabiliri of Records Office records were checked and for the most part required records were on file and up-to-date through the 4's qff, 2001. At the time of the inspection, annual certifications for the excavated SAE sediment traps and a requested revised annual certification for the sedimentation pond had not been filed at the mine office. The certifications were received by DMG on Mazch 29, 2002, and need to be placed on file at the mine office. Roads Road surfaces and drainage structures were in general properly maintained and functional. Middle and lower filter fabric ditch outlet sediment traps require clean-out, and the filter fabric should be replaced. Hvdrolonic Balance At the upper north side drop inlet culvert, some brush has grown up over the drop inlet opening and should be cut back. Drainage control ditches and culverts were in general well maintained and functional. Sediment pond reconstruction appeared to have been completed in compliance with We approved design, and was certified by P.E. The pond was dry at the time of the inspection. Two soi]/Reveeetation Areas disturbed by recent flood damage repair work, including the topsoil and construction dirt stockpiles and sediment drying azea, had been broadcast seeded with the interimseedmix and mulched.
