COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE ~~~n ~~ G.-S3_~~
P~ y~ a~~l ~~- ~
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Twin Pines Mine conducted by Jim Stark of CDMG.
The bond for this site was forfeited affer the Operator completed reclamation. The
weather cool and overcast and the ground was dry.
The coal sales/tipple area was well vegetated and in good condition. This area has
also been very dry and much of the vegetation at this part of the mine appears to
be dead or dormant. The area has been grazed this summer (and it looked like it
was recently grazed) but there was no active grazing at the time of the inspection.
The remaining sediment pond, remarkably, contained a small amount of water in the
bottom. The pond appeared to be well vegetated and in good condition. The
access road is a county road, which was well maintained and in good condition.
The portal area is well vegetated and in good condition. The area has also been
very dry so much of the vegetation appears to be dead or dormant. The upper part
of the road to the portal area is showing some minor rilling but is in overall good
shape. This upper part of the road has been filling in with vegetation over the past
several years. The remaining sediment pond at the portal bench was well vegetated
and in good condition. This sediment pond was dry at the time of the inspection.
The remaining highwall still appears to be stable and in good condition.
Overall, despite the lack of "live" vegetation, both areas at the Twin Pines Mine are in
good condition.
