MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ne_t9»_~es
INSPECTION DATE: n~+„r,e. t2 9nn~ INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: nag
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection conducted by David Bird of DRMS. Present during the inspection were Mr. Lou
Anderson, Jefferson County Safety Coordinator, and Mr. Paul Rice, former Safety Coordinator. The site is
located in Jefferson County at the southeast corner of the Pine Junction intersection on Highway 285. The site
was inactive at the time of the inspection, although Mr. Rice stated that there had been limited activity earlier
in the year, and the 2007 annual report filed Jon. 31 stated that in 2006 the operation had "limited activity with
a screen operation:' The only equipment on site at the time of the inspection were a front loader-and a
screen. Two small sheds are located on the northern edge of the property. The signage is adequate and
permit boundaries are marked. With its location at the Pine Junction intersection and adjacent to an RTD Park-
and-Ride lot, the site is very close to relatively high traffic areas, but areas of the site immediately adjacent to
high traffic areas are adequately protected from public access by an 8-foot barbed wire fence.
Material mined at this site consists of sand, gravel, and decorative stone that is excavofed from fractured
granitic bedrock. The rock is generally well-fractured and foliated, and much of it can be excavated without
the aid of blasting. For locally coherent zones that require occasional blasting, an independent contractor is
used for the task.
Despite having limited recent activity, the site is clean and well maintained. Storm water diversions and
holding facilities are functioning as designed, erosional problems are nearly nonexistent, and the presence of
noxious weeds is negligible. The hydrologic balance appears to be unimpacfed, and storm water holding
facilities do not appear to have released water offsite at any time in the past. Some of the regraded slopes
adjacent to active areas appear to have been reclaimed and revegetated, and a healthy growth of grass is
established. There is no topsoil stockpiled on site, as very little was available during pre-stripping. Topsoil
needed for infrequent concurrent reclamation is hauled in, as will any required for post-mining reclamation.
The only issue worth mentioning is the condition of the fence on the eastern boundary of the property and the
possibility of public access. DRMS recommends repairing the portions of the fence that have collapsed and
posting a sign to warn trespassers. However, this is not cited as a problem.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Louis Anderson, Safety Coordinator
OPERATOR: Jefferson County
STREET: 91401 GnldPn GntP Cnnynn Rd.
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Gnlrien.
