(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: nn_ioa.~_r~~
INSPECTION DATE:
INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: J nn
This inspection was conducted as part of the Division's monitoring of permitted mining operations to check
compliance with the permit and regulations. Terry Dewitt accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 9.9 ac sand extraction permit. It appears that most of the permit area has been mined. The east edge
is getting very close to the permit boundary. Blowing sand is a concern in This area, and the operator should
watch the east edge so that blow out of the sand does not enlarge the permit enough to eventually be outside
the permit boundary.
Two to three acres of the west permit area has established well naturally in perennial grasses and other
perennial vegetation, including cottonwood trees. It appears that extraction of the sand is occurring down to a
level where there are materials that re-vegetate more readily. Extraction of the sand seems to be a good way
to get the surface to a more suitable growth medium.
I reminded Mr. Dewitt that he should soon expand his permitted area by converting to a 112 type permit or
asking for release of a portion of his present permit area (the naturally re-vegetated area). He does not have
much more area available for extraction. I discussed release and amendment procedures with him so that he
can continue to mine. He wants to extend the permit area to the north.
His operation is within the permit boundary and the boundary is marked. No problems were noted: however.
the operator should begin reclaiming more of the pit floor.
The bond is 55.000. 00 and is adequate for the size of the present disturbed area, and he is about out of area to
mine. The bond should be looked at again when he amends his permit as he says he intends to do.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Terry Dewitt
OPERATOR: Dewitt Excavnting
STREET: ~~05 I is I-lignv,ir7y 5n-
CITY/STATE/ZIP: I mm~r C'C~ RlnS~
cc: t CE
t BL
P FS
P HW
I' HMWMD (CH)
I' SE
t WQCD (CH)
t OTHER
