III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted on September 18, 2007 by Mike
Boulay of the DRMS. No operator representative was present at the time of the inspection.
Weather conditions were partly cloudy and warm. Ground conditions were damp from recent
rainfall. There was no activity at the mine site during the inspection.
Hvdroloaic Balance
Sedimentation Ponds A and B were inspected. Pond A was dry. Pond B was damp in the bottom
but retaining no significant amount of water. Inlets and discharge structures at both locations
were in good condition. Pond embankments were stable and well vegetated. No problems were
noted at either pond location.
Roads
Roads were maintained and in relatively good condition. Culverts and road ditches were clear of
sediment and debris and functioning as intended. Although muddy in spots, road surfaces were
maintained and stable. All areas of the mine site were accessible.
Reve etg ation
Vegetation appeared brown throughout much of the reclaimed areas. Tamarisk (saltcedar) is
present at both pond locations.
Reclamation Success
Vegetative cover still appears to be somewhat sparse at the site. However, the site is stable and
no significant erosion features were noted in any reclaimed areas.
