III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection, conducted by Joe Dudash of Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology. The aerial inspection was flown
on December 15, 1995. A Division inspector was present during the
aerial overflight. No problems with compliance were observed at
that time. The examination of the aerial photographs was done on
December 22, 1995. There was very little snow on the ground.
PIT AREAB
The dragline at the Derringer Pit is near the south end of the pit,
moving northward. Remnants of two other spoil piles lie to the
west. The operator has drilled a pattern for blasting just to the
east of the middle section of the pit. Coal is being removed in
advance of the new dragline cut.
There was no activity observed in the Enfield Pit.
The operator is working on the second cut of the northern section
of the Hawken Pit. The last cut of the southern section of the
Hawken Pit is still open. There is one spoil ridge just to the
west.
Terraces have been cut to the east of the lower section of the
Ashmore Pit, in preparation for drilling.
RECLAMATION
There was no evidence of any erosional problems or slope
instability on any of the reclaimed lands.
TOP80IL
Topsoil piles appeared to be stable, with no signs of erosion.
ROADB
The haul roads leading to the pit areas were in very good shape.
