The Inspection Report noted
that the presence of patches of both knapweed and thistle was observed within the permit
boundary at this site. The corrective action noted in the Inspection Report is to submit a
noxious weed control plan. This document will serve as such.
a. Mr. Rod Cook, La Plata County Extension- Weed Manager, was consulted in the
prepazation of this control plan.
b. The operator, working with Mr. Cook, will more accurately identify the specific
noxious weeds present at the site. This determination will provide for the most
beneficial schedule and the best method of treatment.
c. The operator will treat the noxious weeds through manual and chemical means.
Manual efforts may include turning existing weeds under, selectively torching the
stands of noxious weeds and/or removing them. Chemical treatment of noxious weeds
will be performed by a licensed or certified weed control expert and in conformance
with all applicable local, state and federal laws.
d. Prevention of noxious weed propagation on all topsoil and overburden piles and
berms will be achieved by means of seeding, mulching and/or compacting of the
surface as necessary.
e. The operator will commence the actions described herein as soon as it is determined
to be most effective but in any event no later than June 2001.
