The outfall of the lined drainageway is south of the
edge of the pad, in the trees. Peak surtace flow is not expected to be high. Water and sediment that will be conveyed by the
liner will report to natural hillslope that is less steep than its former flow path, and it is anticipated that the native vegetation will
act as a vegetative filter prior to the surtace water re-entering the natural gulch below the dump.
All parties present proceeded to inspect the underground workings, especially to view the locations of seeps and the sump. To
reiterate, no surface discharge was observed leaving the portal, and there was little water immediately inby of the portal. The
drift inclines slightly on the approach to the ore body, which helps to direct the drainage away from working faces. Between the
portal and the working face, there are several locations which held shallow standing water. Some of these areas did not visibly
drain and the water was presumed to percolate into the fractures or colluvium in the floor. The main collection area where
other mine water drained was a large "sump." The sump was constructed as a steeply sloped spur off the main drift. It
contained a significant amount of water, but since the full dimensions could not be seen, the volume could not be estimated.
There was about 2 to 3 feet of freeboard (estimated to be 5 to 10 thousand gallons of sump capacity), and no water observed
flowing out of the sump.
Mr. Barker stated that he would not be involved in activities at the site in the future, and that future contact and correspondence
should be directed to the permittee, LKA International, Inc.
No mining or processing of ore is occurring at this time. There was no stockpile of ore at the site, and no sacked ore down at
Vickers Ranch. Many mining-related items (parts, materials, tools, equipment, fuel, and structures) still remain atthe site. If no
further onsite activity is to occur during 2007, the operator should stabilize the site for the winter. This should include removing
hydrocarbons and fluids, securing the portals and other doors, maintaining the berms, and removing or tarping any ore.
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to the Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Bob Oswald; phone no. 970-
247-5193.
I & E Contact Address cc: Tony Waldron, DRMS
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Kve Abraham
LKA International.
