Bear Mines; pg. 2
We next conducted a field review of the site by walking all of
the disturbed areas and making general observations. Reclaimed
portals Nos. 1 & 2 were found to be stable and well vegeteted.
The reclaimed former sediment pond area was also stable with no
evidence of erosion.
We walked the active portal area and found it currently stable
and dry. Mr. Bear had completed some minor road regrading leading
away from the portal to improve road drainage, and the slide
material from Spring 1995 has all been removed from the roadway
and roadside ditches. The slide area still appears unstable and
Mr. Bear is considering additional means to protect the roadway
at this location.
All ditches and culverts observed in the yard area appeared well
maintained and functional. The sediment pond embankment was
stable and the pond was not discharging. Road surfacing appeared
durable and well maintained and roadways were being watered on
8/30. Ms. Johnston indicated she would research the status of the
B-Seam monitoring well which is soon to be installed to ensure it
is progressing as approved by DMG. This concluded the inspection.
Please address any questions concerning this report to Henry
Austin at (303) 672-5572.
