Cottony
Division Director
Natural Resource Tnrstee
The Division of Minerals and Geology received your letter dated May 22, 2006 regazding the Home Office Pit,
Permit No. M-1977-439. Your letter references hat a technical revision amendment will be submitted to address
the problems noted in the Division's March 7, 2006 inspection regarding the mining of the 25 foot buffer between
the Home Office Pit and the North Taft Hill Expansion Pit (Permit M-2001-051).
Please be aware that the Division does not have a "technical revision amendment" application. Changes to
mining and reclamation plans are handled as either a technical revision or as an amendment to the permit. The
Division does have a policy titled, "Additions and deletions of acreage where no disturbance has occurred" which
is attached for your review. Under this policy a technical revision may be used in lieu of a permit amendment for
when an operator wants to add new acreage by deleting undisturbed acreage from either the permitted area or
affected azea. However, the conditions at the Home Office Pit do not fall within the policy guidelines.
Therefore, the Division believes that an amendment to the permit is necessary to address the mining of the 25-foot
berm between the Home Office Pit and the North Taft Hill Expansion Pit. The Division will approve your request
fora 30-day extension to file the permit amendment to July 1, 2006.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 303-866-4943.
Si ere y,
~~
Erica rosby
Environmental Protection Specl
Enclosure; DMG Policy Memo
cc: Carl Mount; DMG
STATE OF COLORADO
Once of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Rxlamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
