A site inspection of the Beech Hill Quarries was conducted as part of the Division's 4-year inspection program. Present <br />during the inspection was Mr. Michael Loukonen of Loukonen Brothers Stone. <br />2. The Beech Hill Quarries consist of 7 quarries permitted for a total of 190 acres, and a maximum disturbance of 25 acres <br />at any one time. The post-mining land use is rangeland. The operator has posted a financial warranty of $58,000 in the <br />form of a Letter of Credit to reclaim the 25 acres of disturbance. The seven quarries are as follows: Helsinki, Gust, <br />Suomi/Reino, Kupio, Dump, Emil, & Katri. <br />3. The status of the Beech Hill Quarries is active. There was no mining activity at the time of inspection as Loukonen <br />Brothers are waiting for season workers to return to the quarry to resume mining activities. However, there was active <br />mine disturbance at all 7 quarries located within the 190 acre permit area. <br />4. All mining related disturbances were found to he within the 190 acre permit boundary for the Beech Hill Quarries. The <br />operator has done a good job of establishing permit boundaries at each of the 7 quarry operations. The operator has also <br />posted an entrance sign in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. <br />5. This inspector noted the following disturbances during the inspection: <br />Helsinki: quarry excavation of 3-4 acres, near vertical working face cut into hillside - 250 ff @ 8-10' high <br />Gust: Undisturbed, reserved for future quarry excavation. <br />Suomi/Reino: 2 active working pit areas -center & east end; Center wJ 4 acres active disturbance, <br />180 If of vertical working face @ 12' high, 20 AF finish grading of OB piles; East end w/ 2 cuts, <br />165 If of vertical working face @ 12' high & 4 AF finish grading of OB piles, 159 tf of vertical <br />working face @ 12' high & 4 AF finish grading of OB piles <br />Kupio: West ~/z - 500 If @ 1;1 slope @ 12' high <br />East ~/z - 75 If vertical working face @ 10' high & 4 AF finish grading of OB piles <br />- 540 If vertical working face @ 20' high & 8 AF finish grading of OB piles <br />- 110 If vertical working face @ 10' high <br />Dump: Overburden pile at approximate finish contours, no regarding needed <br />Emil: Entirely disturbed, large quarry, 10+ AF finish grading of OB piles, vertical working faces as follows: <br />600 If @ 6' high, 150 If @ 8' high, 210 If @ 10' high, 600 !f @ 12' high <br />Katri: entirely disturbed, 540 If vertical working face @ 12' high & 5 AF finish grading of OB piles <br />
