III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence <br />supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was a partial inspection conducted by Tom Kaldenbach of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. <br />No one else was present. The ground was dry. DMG completed reclamation on this site in May 1993. <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE <br />There are no ponds or ditches on the site. Good vegetative cover appears to be controlling erosion throughout <br />the site. No gully or rill problems were found, even on the steepest slopes on the site. There were no sediment <br />fans or deltas. Positive drainage was well-established throughout the site. The site appears to be no more <br />susceptible to erosion than surrounding undisturbed lands. There were no signs of seepage below the <br />reclaimed portals. No off-site hydrologic impacts were apparent in Hay Gulch downhill from the disturbed area. <br />SLIDES AND DAMAGE <br />The site is located on anorthwest-facing hillslope. Regional geologic maps show this is the updip edge of the <br />Menefee Formation which dips approximately 3 degrees south (into the hill). There is no fill material on this <br />slope. The slope appeared stable. <br />RECLAMATION SUCCESS <br />Reclamation appeared successful throughout the site, with one exception. An open hole was found <br />approximately 10 ft. uphill from the east DMG marker (see attached photos). This is in the area of the reclaimed <br />east portal. The hole was one foot in diameter extending to at least 5 ft. deep, and appeared to continue deeper <br />to an unknown depth with a 4-inch diameter. There seemed to be a faint sound of drafting air in the hole, but <br />this was not certain. There were no other signs of ground instability around the hole. There were no signs of <br />animal or human activity near the hole. <br />
