Following are
the reasons for requesting an extension.
Item 1: Submit[al of new map showing locations of stockpiled material
on the site.
EXTENSION REASON: The site has been flown and an Autocad digitized
map is being prepared by Analytical Surveys of Colorado Springs through
Leigh Whitehead and Associates. It is expected, according to Leigh
Whitehead and Associates, the map will be ready about the middle of
November. At that time we will have Leigh Whitehead and Associates
calculate the volumes of stockpiled material and those figures will be
submitted, along with a copy of the map showing the locations of the
stockpiles, by the end of November.
Item 2: Protection of soil stockpiles by seeding.
EXTENSION REASON; The original deadline in the inspection report
was October 29, 1991. For this site, seeding that early in the autumn
carries a considerable risk of failure. The probability of germination
and subsequent killing of the seedlings by a severe cold spell (like
what we are having right now) is too high. As a revegeta[ion specialist
I feel that any planting on this site should not occur earlier than the
last week or two of November. After then the soil is cold enough to
prevent significant germination and winter freeze thaw cycles help to
bury the seed to produce a rich growth the next spring. I would like to
request an extension until at least the end of November and i[ might be
better to delay it until the middle of December to be sure soil
