(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-i era-i SS
INSPECTION DATE: pfz/27mF INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: TAS
OBSERVATIONS
1. A brief inspection of the Dotsero Cinder Pit was conducted. The site is located 5.25 miles west of Gypsum on US 24
and ~/z mile north of I-70. Present during the inspection was Donna Ward of the Colorado Department of Transportation,
Glenwood Springs office. Digital photographs of the site were taken and are attached to this report.
2. The Dotsero Cinder Pit is permitted for a total of 9.23 acres. The mine plan consists of excavation into an existing
hillside (lava flow). This inspector noted a near vertical highwall slope of approximately 12' high and 65 linear feet long.
The reclamation plan specifies that the site will be reclaimed ro rangeland and that disturbed slopes will be re-conroured
to blend in with the surrounding terrain. Therefore, the current highwall will need to be re-graded to blend in with the
surrounding area, and preferably no steeper than a 1:1 slope. Also, there is a minor amount of refuse (solid waste) at the
site. Ms. Ward indicated that this material was not brought in by CDOT. Nevertheless, CDOT will need to have these
materials removed from the site prior to financial warranty release, unless the operator can clearly demonstrate that such
materials had been present on site prior to the issuance of mining and reclamation permit M-1979-155. The reclamation
plan also specifies re-vegetation of disturbed areas.
3. Ms. Ward indicated that the pit has not been used for CDOT projects for quite same time, The status of the site is
listed as intermittently active. The Division encourages the CDOT to reclaim the pit if they have no immediate or future
plans for use of cinder cone materials at the pit.
4.
