(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: nn-~nm-n.F3F
INSPECTION DATE: ~(~~/n3 INSPECTORS INITIALS: A nnr
OBSERVATIONS
This was a standard pre-operational inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Les Ewegen of
124th Estates Partners. The inspection was conducted in conjunction with an amendment submitted by the
operator to add 41.2 acres to the existing permitted acreage of 34.3 Acres. The site is located just west of U.S.
Hwy 85 and in between 124th Avenue and 120th Avenue near Henderson, Colorado. There are numerous
gravel pits in this area mining the gravel rich alluvial terrace of the Platte River. This pit is situated approximately
one mile east of the river on a more upland terrace. The active portion of the site was mined and reclaimed by
a previous operator, however, a substantial amount of gravel was never mined before the market soured and
the mine was reclaimed. As a result, the current operator decided to re-open the site and complete the
mining before reclaiming the pit to a water storage reservoir for the City of Brighton.
The area proposed for an amendment is southeast of the active pit. The proposed post-mining land use for this
area is also a water storage reservoir. The two areas are separated by the Fulton Ditch, which runs more or less
south to north between the two areas. The proposed mining site is presently an abandoned farm field that is
overgrown with annual weeds. The canal borders the area on the east with 120m avenue on the south. To the
north is a reclaimed gravel pit that has been converted into a recreational water ski lake. Just to the west of
the proposed area there is another crop field and a single residence with a power line running to the house.
As long as set-back distances are observed or damage agreements are reached with adjacent structure
owners, mining should be able to occur at this site. The application will be reviewed carefully to determine if
there are any problems or concerns that may not have been identified on this inspection. However, based on
this inspection, no on-the-ground problems were identified that would preclude mining from occurring on this
site. The adequacy review will continue in the office and the decision date is March 19, 2003. This concluded
the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Les EwecLn
OPERATOR: 124th Estate Partners
STREET: d545 F.
