t
GEC
Revoked -DMG administered
The Corley Co. (landowner)
PO Box 1821
Colorado Springs, CO 80901
GEC Strip
C-037-81
Partial special focus inspection
2/7/2000
Mitch Rollings, 370, OSM
Dave Berry, DMG
This was a partial inspection to determine if there are any off site impacts from this bond
forfeited site.
Main mining area. There are two large drainages from the East and West Pits. Rills and
gullies characterize the reclaimed slopes. There has been massive soil movement in both
of the large drainages. We do not consider these stable watersheds at this time. It is
about seven miles to the nearest perennial receiving stream. The only existing
sedimentation pond is the pond along the road to the Southfield Mine. This pond does
not intercept the areas with the most soil movement.
Oddly enough, the downstream undisturbed (by direct mining operations) channel does
not reflect the degree to which there has been soil erosion and loss on the mine site.
There are no large areas of obvious deposition. Vegetation die-off from deposition is not
evident. There are bits and pieces of material on the surface which we suspect originated
on the mine site. The soil lost from the mine HAD to have been deposited here, but it
blends well with [he area.
Section 24 -Duck Pond. No off site impacts.
Dave will ask Harry Ranney to get some aerial photos of the site when he flies next.
