MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # INSPECTION DATE 10 3 95 (Page 2) M-80-112 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS APM This inspection of the Richard Bachmann Pit on 10/3/95 was in response to a 112 conversion application for the site; the pit is currently a 110 operation. The site ie 5.5 miles southeast of Meeker, CO, northeast of the intersection of County Roads 4 and 8, at an approximate elevation of 6650, in the SE 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Section 34, Township 1 North, Range 93 Weet, 6th P.M. The operator is the Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge Department; present during the inspection were Rick Ullom from the County; Richard Atkins and James Joy, permitting consultants for the County; and Andy Moore of the Division. The 110 operation consists of 9.2 acres; the new operation would add 10.3 scree on the south end of the existing site for a total of 19.5 acres. The operation will involve the continued mining of a broad gravel ridge. The average depth of gravel is 40 feet. Topsoil (ranging from 6 to 8 inches) and overburden ( ranging from 3 to 8 feet) will be stockpiled prior to mining. The overburden and topsoil are similar in composition. The future use of the site is rangeland. About 25,000 to 30,000 tone per year will be excavated with no more than 4 to 5 acres being mined at any one time. Mining is expected to last approximately 20 years at the site. After reclamation, finished elopes will be no steeper than 3:1. A drainage ewale will be created during final grading that will drain to the south (the approximate historic drainage direction) at a one percent elope. The access road will not be reclaimed but left ae access to the property, ae per request by the landowner. The ridge ie high and dry. No groundwater will be encountered, and no surface water should be affected. Vegetation observed oneite included sagebrush and various grasses and forbe. Currently, there are powerlinea and various equipment oneite. This pit area has been mined since about 1960; there is a mined area to the NNW with a highwall that is not in the current permitted area. Therefore, the County has no obligation to reclaim this area. There was no sign for the site; this needs to be remedied. Permitted area markers should be clearly visible, including those for the area on the north aide near the old highwall.
