III. Comments - Compliance
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of
observations made during the inspection. Comments also describe any
enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence
supporting the enforcement action.
On tiay 23, 1991 a partial inspection was conducted at the
Deserado Mine. Present at the inspection was Tim Chervick of
Western Fuels and Randy Price of MLRD. At the time of the
inspection the weather was clear, however the ground was wet from
an intense thunderstorm that had passed earlier.
Observations:
The Sediment pond PP-1 was discharging. The effluent looked
clear. Tamarisk around the pond had been sprayed with a
herbicide. This herbicide contained a marking dye.
Additional work has been conducted on the sediment control system
at the explosive storage area. A berm along the edge of the pad
had been reformed. The outslopes off the pad were well vegetated.
Also the sediment control system under the conveyor just north of
the office as been improved.
This mine is continuing to work on locating the cause of the high
Ceridaohnia mortality in the mine discharge. It seems that the
high chloride may be the problem and the mine has been looking
for ways to try to lower the concentration.
.. .._ . ~ _ i .. _ ...~--
