(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-77-479
INSPECTION DATE: 9/20/00
OBSERVATIONS

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Jackie Carson of Baca County. The
site is located approximately 3 miles northwest of Walsh, Colorado along Bear Creek. The active pit is situated along the north
side of the creek near the west property boundary on land owned by Baca County. This area has been the site of extensive
sand and gravel mining for many years and a good deal of the disturbance located in this area is pre-law.
During the last inspection of this site a problem was identified which required the operator to submit a new mining plan map
to clarify the historic versus post-law mining areas. The map was submitted and did clarify the various disturbances and when
they occurred, however, it did not have a scale or clearly show distances associated with the various phases. The operator
indicated that the present phase is nearly mined out and that they would want to be permitting a new site as soon as possible.
Since it is not permissible to permit side by side 110's, this would require that they fully reclaim the present disturbance and
receive full performance warranty release prior to obtaining a new 110. Amore desirable alternative would probably be to
convert the permit from a 110 to a 112 and incorporate the entire parcel of land that is owned by Baca County. This would
allow a lot of flexibility with respect to using the various areas that have been designated pre-law but are basically un-
reclaimed at this point. This could provide more area to stockpile product and also provide for additional staging areas. In
addition, it would be a good opportunity to reclaim some of these pre-law areas into a more usable piece of property once the
mining resource is exhausted. This concluded the inspection and no additional problems were identified.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Rav Miller
OPERATOR: Baca County
STREET: P.O.Box 741
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Springfield, CO 81073
cc: Jim Stevens-DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
(Page 3)
