III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. This farmer underground mine is bond revoked. Ground
conditions were dry and the weather was warm and seasonal.
Signs and Markers
The mine identification sign is located in the reclaimed crib wall area. The sign
was posted by the Division of Minerals and Geology and identifies the site as a
reclaimed coal mine. DMG address and phone numbers were clearly legible.
Roads
The north and south access roads were traversed on foot. These two former roads
appear reclaimed and are no longer used as roads.
Hydrologic Balance
The interceptor ditch running above the north access road, the reclaimed crib wall
area, and the reclaimed portal was traversed on foot. It is reasonably well
vegetated and remains in functional condition.
Revegetation
Revegetation was evaluated on the reclaimed crib wall and portal area, the north
access road, and the south access road. Species identified include Lewis blue
flax, Houndstongue, Great basin wild rye, Yellow sweet clover, Western wheatgrass,
Crested wheatgrass, Downy brome, flixweed and milkweed. Houndstongue was
mechanically removed in areas inspected, although much of it appeared to have set
seed already. This biennial, noxious weed should be cut in May, if possible,
prior to flowering. Overall, vegetation is qualitatively rated as good.
Overall, the site appeared in good condition for the early summer season. No
problems were found.
3
