OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the Thomas Pit on ej7J95. The Bite ie
about 4-1/2 miles west and 1 mile south of Reota, at an approximate elevation of 5050, in the
West Half of Section 1, Township 8 North, Range 61 Weet, 6th P.M. The pit ie operated by
Weld County; present during the inspection were Don Carroll and Greg Nelson of the County and
Andy Moore of the Division.
The Bite was permitted ae a 110 operation on February 25, 1982, with a total of 9.7 acrea;
on December 31, 1992, it waa approved for conversion to a 112 operation, with a total of
67.638 acrea. Approximately 75 percent of the mining has been completed at the site. The
operation involves excavating a gravel ridge. There are three product stockpiles onaite:
two large piles and one small one. They collectively contain 60,000 to 70,000 tone of
material. There ie one big and one small topsoil stockpile.
The site is dry with no stream couraea nearby.
No problems were noted.
The surrounding area ie rolling prairie.
