III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Seneca II-W Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of DMG. No
company representative was present during the inspection. The Seneca II-W Mine status is
active, and mining is currently taking place in the A Pit. The inspection involved viewing two
aerial photographs of the 006 Pond taken by Harry Ranney of DMG on October 23, 1997.
Weather conditions appear sunny and dry.
Roads The mine entrance road adjacent to Pond 006 appeared to be in good repair. The pond
006 slide has not yet affected the condition and use of the road.
Hydrologic Balance Sediment Pond 006 contained water, but discharge could not be detected.
There was a large sediment delta at the inlet of the pond, which encompassed roughly 1 /3 of the
pond area. The operator has informed the Division that a temporary diversion has been routed to
the B-Pit and that pond cleaning has recently begun. The slide adjacent to the pond was noted
in both photos. The slide does not appear to be impacting the function of the pond or the haul
road. Stability of the slide should be included in the pond 006 remodel.
